The Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 brought the spotlight back on safety standards in the oil & gas industry. The Oil Spill Commission, set up to investigate the disaster, recommended stricter safety measures for oil majors. These entail higher insurance, better spill prevention techniques, safer equipment and even more restrictive environment regulations. Companies have turned to outsourcing to help improve their safety standards and reduce impact on the environment. |
